Independent Expertise and Training

“Lee's Intro to Oil & Gas training was invaluable for myself and our division.  He was able to condense volumes of technical knowledge in an accessible format pitched for those in the room. I have found similar courses can be dry or overwhelming and fail to translate technical concepts appropriately. Lee kept things engaging and interactive, always able to answer questions and encourage discussion. I thoroughly recommend this course for any non-technical professional. “

  • Dispute expert.

With 25 years of commercial, financial and international oil and gas leadership experience, MCA is ideally qualified to serve as an independent commercial or economic expert in formal dispute processes.

  • Introduction to oil & gas (in-house training).

A career of assimilating geoscience, reservoir engineering, drilling, development engineering, commercial, tax and marketing information has given MCA a strong understanding of the entire oil and gas value chain. Combined with a passion for sharing knowledge and a natural, well-received presentation style, this training course is perfect for non-technical corporate staff and those new to the industry.

We cover license acquisition, subsurface data, exploration risk elements, chance of success and uncertainty distributions, development concept selection and risks, markets, tax regimes, investment decision requirements, economics, operations and abandonment. These are described at a conceptual level so as not to overwhelm or distract from the objective of significantly increasing industry knowledge and an appreciation for how the organisational disciplines and functions interact and support each other.

The duration and depth of the training can be tailored to specific needs, but around four hours in the morning tends to be best.

  • Understanding decision economics (in-house training).

This training is ideal for professionals and managers that do not have a strong academic or professional background in financial mathematics, discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, or basic statistical techniques used to characterise risk and uncertainty. Those attending will benefit from a greater understanding of these concepts as they are involved in providing inputs to the analytical process or making decisions that are informed by the outputs.

We start with the very basics of DCF techniques (“NPV 101”) and progress through the requirement for appropriate framing, generating inputs, measures of financial value and incorporation of risk and uncertainty.

    This is a four-hour course.
